Key insurance challenges to be reviewed

 MANAMA: Top takaful experts from as far afield as France, Sri Lanka and Malaysia are in Bahrain to attend a seminar beginning today.

The two-day second International Co-operative and Mutual Insurance Federation (ICMIF) Takaful Network Seminar at the Elite Suites is being hosted by Solidarity Group, a member of the Ithmaar banking group.

The seminar, which aims to bring together established industry leaders from across the world to share experiences and insight, and discuss developments, challenges and concerns, is being held under the theme "Takaful - Beyond the Hype".

"Many takaful operators in the region and elsewhere have gone through their formative stages and are experiencing good growth," said Solidarity Group chief executive officer Sameer Al Wazzan.

"At the same time, however, there are some impediments to growth and other realities of business that need to be discussed.

"Further, the global financial downturn has also placed certain hurdles in our paths and I am sure that constructive dialogues on crossing these hurdles will beneficial for us all. This makes the theme for this year's seminar particularly appropriate."
