The Prime Minister reiterates the need to defeat terrorism and establish Democracy.

Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake presenting a motion to extend the state of emergency by a further month in Parliament today said the Government will successfully implement  the program to establish democracy in the country through defeat of terrorism.

He added that the people in the newly liberated Eastern Province are now enjoying their democratic rights.

The Prime Minister has recalled how the late Minister Jayaraj Fernandopulle has pointed out the need in and out of the Parliament to defeat terrorism and establish democracy.

He also said 93 security forces personnel were killed in combat last month. 38 civilians were also killed. 686 Security Forces personnel and 21 civilians were injured during this period.
