Wanni liberation operation in progress

Security forces personnel on Wanni liberation operation have moved further towards LTTE territory causing damages to the enemy, the reports reached from forefront said. Eight LTTE terrorists were killed while seven others received injuries in yesterday's clashes sparked in Jaffna, Vavuniya and Welioya fronts. Further, 22 LTTE cadres were either killed or wounded, the report further said. Seven army personnel also received injuries in yesterday's clashes, it added.

On Jaffna theatre of battle, troops have launched an attack targeting LTTE movement in general area Eluthumadduval around 12.50 p.m yesterday. Troops confirmed that 4 LTTE cadres were either killed or wounded in this incident.

On Wanni theatre of battle, in Vavuniya front 6 LTTE terrorists were killed while 2 others suffered injuries in clashes sparked several areas yesterday, the report said. Two army soldiers also received injuries in yesterday's clashes.

Meanwhile, 14 Arul bombs were found by the troops on search operation conducted in general area east of Palampiddi.

In Welioya front clashes reported from north of Janakapura, Kokkuthuduwai, north of Kiriibbanwewa and Puttankulam areas yesterday. Two LTTE cadres were killed while 5 others received injuries due to these attacks. Further, 18 more terrorists were either killed or wounded due to the heavy attacks launched by the troops, the report said. Four army personnel also received injuries in these clashes.

Meanwhile, troops removed 145 anti-personnel mines from the general area Kookuthuduwai, sources added.

Troops captured an LTTE base located in general area Kokkuthuduwai following a heavy gun battle with the terrorists. The captured LTTE base consists of six underground bunkers with well-built overhead protection and it can accommodate at least 60 personnel easily. LTTE terrorists have fled the area evacuating their casualties in the face of effective fire power launched by the troops. Two claymore mines, three 60mm mortar bombs and few other items were found in the location, sources said.
