The IGP Victor Perera accuses certain media for engaging in a conspiracy to breach the confidence of the general public on the Police Department.

The IGP at a media briefing today said these media have launched baseless accusations on policemen who have joined hands with other security forces personnel to eradicate terrorism.

Director General of the Media Centre for National Security Luxman Hulugalle said legal action will be taken against the media which presented facts regarding the Muhamalai confrontation, discrediting the security forces personnel.

The Police says taken as a whole, election propaganda relating to the Eastern Provincial Council is being conducted in a very peaceful manner.

DIG in charge of Election Affairs at the Police HeadquartersGamini Navaratne says only complaints regarding around 50 minor incidents have been reported so far.

He added certain groups try to create an impression that there is widespread violence.

Nearly ten thousand security forces personnel have been deployed on election duty.
