logistics vessel belonging to the Sri Lanka Navy sunk after an explosion at the Trincomalee Harbour in the early hours of this morning (May 10th), the Navy Spokesman said.

The A520 'MV Invincible', moored at the Ashroff Jetty, was damaged in an underwater explosion and sank around 2.15 am, he said.

According to the Navy Spokesman, an Improvised Explosive Device had been used for the blast.

No lives were lost to the explosion, the Media Centre for National Security said.

Meanwhile, 'Tamil Net' reported that Sea Tigers' Black Tiger underwater naval commandos from the Kangkai Amaran Unit had staged the attack. The attack was carried out when the vessel was loaded with explosives to be transported to the Kankesanthurai Harbour in Jaffna, it said quoting LTTE officials in the Wanni.

A-520 was a merchant vessel built in the1970's and handed over to the Sri Lanka Navy, following a court order after it was apprehended while transporting 254 Pakistani migrants off Tangalle in 2003.
