The Supreme Court has ordered Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) OIC Prasanna de Alwis to produce suspect Vettivel Jaseekaran before the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) for a medical examination to ascertain whether he sustained any injuries as a result of an assault.

Court also directed the JMO to produce his medical report to court.
The Bench, comprising Justices Raja Fernando, Saleem Marsoof and K. Sripavan, made this order sequel to a request made by Counsel for suspect J.C. Weliamuna.

Jaseekaran, who is in TID custody, filed this fundamental rights application claiming Rs. 10,000,000 compensation as violation of his fundamental rights by arresting him.

When the case came up before the court, Counsel for Jaseekaran informed the court that his client had been assaulted at the TID even after being produced before the Magistrate.

TID OIC Prasanna de Alwis, TID SSP Nandana Munasinghe, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, IGP Victor Perera, TID IP Janakantha and the Attorney General were cited as respondent by Jaseekaran’s petition.
In his petition he had stated that he had been arrested, that he had nothing to do with the LTTE and that he had been contributing to the Outreach SL.com website as a journalist.
