Tight security on Thursday
Special security measures would be in place countrywide next Thursday to meet any security contingency when trade unions had called for a one day token strike Director General, Media Centre for National Security Lakshman Hulugalle said.
He said there may be attempts to intimidate employees who report for work disregarding the call of the trade unions. LTTE terrorists may make use of the day for terrorist attacks necessitating extra security measures to be adopted.
He said the working class should be aware of the problems the country was facing and exercise extreme caution to prevent terrorists from taking advantage of such situations. The government would ensure tight security throughout the country on Wednesday.
Opposition parliamentarians had expressed the view that the government was spreading false propaganda about a potential LTTE threat on the day of the one day token strike. Colombo District parliamentarian of the Western People’s Front Mano Ganeshan said the Government had warned by the token strike.
