President appoints Kohena as Foreign Secretary

In a controversial move government peace secretariat Chief Palitha Kohena was yesterday appointed foreign secretary by President Mahinda Rajapakse.

Dr Kohena is also the special advisor to the President on the peace process and he succeeds H.M.G.S. Palihakkara.

Geetha De Silva who was acting foreign secretary after Palihakkara’s retirement is to be appointed as Sri Lanka’s permanent representative to the UN in Geneva soon.
