Torture chambers used by the LTTE to punish escaping Tigers and informers, including women fighters, have been found at the LTTE camps captured by the STF in the East, the Defense Ministry said. The camps were uncovered by Police Special Task Force (STF) Commandos, who seized control of four major Tiger bases and seven smaller camps in the Amparai District, the Media Control for National Security (MCNS) said, “ Torture chambers and lock – ups were established to torture, escapees and informers, including woman cadres” the MCNS said. The torture cells were small and dingy.

Many surrendered LTTE child cadres have repeatedly revealed the harassment meted out to them by the LTTE, if they are caught escaping. The camps with torture chambers were captured during the STF ’s “Niyatha Jaya”, (Sure Victory) campaign, which began on January 4th. The Tigers started to flee and four personal were wounded. They recovered weapons, vehicles, boats, and other military- type equipments from the bases. Military Spokesman Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe said five LTTE cadres had accepted the Armed Forces Call to surrender and urged others to turn themselves in. The LTTE has conceded that Government Forces had taken the camps and their territory in Amparai.

LTTE torture camps were found in Mullitiru, known as Tunukkai Netkalanchiyam Torture Camp, the other torture camps were ‘Rango Two’ in Vallipuram, in Tharavai, Batticola, and Karadiyanaru, Batticola. The persons who had not paid ransom to tigers, opposition political party members, those who left LTTE, abducted persons, all were kept in these LTTE torture camps and continuously tortured by the LTTE cadres.

More over LTTE terrorists were cultivating “Kanja Plants” in the Kanchikudicharu forest areas to make money and destroy the future generation of our country.
