Tamil Television Network (TTN), a pay television channel has been shut down today at 17.00 hrs French time. Owners of TTN television in a final departing message said that they are closing down due to political pressure.

TTN, a satellite Television operating out of Paris, is owned by the Tamil Tigers, formally known as Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a banned terrorist organization in the European Union countries including France.

Earlier, Globecast spokesperson told “Asian Tribune” that it would be shut down today when contacted today morning at 11 .00 hrs.

Though the TTN – pay satellite TV operates from Paris up-linked by the Globecst , protests was earlier lodged by the Sri Lankan government about the terrorist propaganda broadcast from this TV station. Investigations into the accusations of broadcasting terrorist propaganda revealed that TTN was operating illegally without obtaining a proper license.

These facts were brought to the notice of the Globecast a subsidiary of the France telecom and after a thorough investigation the Globecast has shutdown the channel today.

Earlier Washington based Intelsat Ltd took similar action recently against National Television of Tamil Eelam (NTT) the official television of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
