Demonstrations staged countrywide to support the government

A demonstration at Battaramulla in the Colombo District and presided by Minister Susil Premajayanth strongly deplored the statements made by the opposition leader under-estimating the victories of the government and courageous war heroes who liberated the East from the terrorists and his denigration of the soldiers.


Minister A H M Fowzie presided at the Kosgashandiya demonstration. It was attended by a large gathering.
UC Chairman Kanthi Kodikara and members of the Council joined in the protest in the Maharagama town.
The demonstration at Nuwara Eliya was organised by Ranjith Fernando the SLFP organiser.


Minister Jayaratne Herath chaired the demonstration in the Kurunegala town. Many SLFP members participated. Minister S B Navinna was present. The opposition leader’s statements were strongly deplored and support expressed to the government at the Horana demonstration. Chief organiser of the area Vidura Wickramanayake organised this demonstration.


The Maha-Oya town in Ampara held another protest campaign, which was joined by Private Secretaries of Ministers.


The conspiracy of the UNP and the Mangala-Sripathi faction came under protest at the demonstration in the Kegalla town. Chief Minister Maheepala Herath and Ministers Athauda Seneviratne and Ranjith Siyambalapitiya participated.


North Western Chief Minister Athula Wijesinghe patronised in the protest in Kuliyapitiya, organised by the SLFP electoral “Balamandalaya”.


A demonstration was organised opposite the bus stand under the auspices of Southern Province Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal De Silva.


Minister John Seneviratne joined in the massive demonstration in the Ratnapura town, extending full support to the President to overcome obstructions from the UNP.


Deputy Minister Sarath Kumara Gunaratne headed the demonstration supporting the government in Negombo.
There was another protest against conspiracies of the opposition leader in the Matale town. Minister Rohana Dissanayake led this protest. Minister S M Chandrasena chaired the demonstration in the Kahatagasdigiliya town, which was part of a series of campaigns in the Anuradhapura district supporting the government.
Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena patronised in the Kalutara protest, which severely criticised the opposition leader’s actions. Members of the Maha Sangha participated in the demonstration at Anamaduwa, headed by Minister D M Dassanayake.
