Defence Secretary visits Kudumbimalai

Defence Secretary, Gotabaya Rajapakse toured the Thoppigala area with security officials to recognize and pay tribute to the valiant soldiers who liberated the eastern province from the LTTE’s grip and to inspect the security situation in the east.

The Chief of Defence staff Air Marshal, Donald Perera and Army Commander, Lt. General Sarath Fonseka, accompanied the Defence Secretary and Brigadier C.P. Gallage, the commander of the commando brigade, received them.

A haul of arms concealed by the LTTE in the Kudumbimalai area was detected by the security forces during their search yesterday around 1.20 p.m., said the information centre for national security. One 120 mm mortar, one 82 mm mortar, one 60 mm mortar, one multi use machine gun, 24 - T56 rifles, one 40 mm grenade launcher, 12 - 120 mm mortar shells, 125 - 82mm mortar shells, one 10 kilo claymore, 9 claymores, 6 - T56 magazines, 197detonators, 144 land mines, 325 jonnie battas, 6500- T56 ammunitions and other military equipments were recovered. They all were buried under a meadow.
