Rehabilitation of 950 houses in Vakarai

The government has commenced rehabilitation of 950 houses, completely destroyed during the recent clashes in Vakarai, Batticaloa. The World Bank is granting financial assistance, said the Divisional Secretary of Vakarai, Giridaran.

Meanwhile, Jeganathan, Manager of National Housing Authority for Batticaloa said that a total of 4387 houses in Vakarai were damaged and 2135 of them was completely damaged and 2252 was partially damaged.

UMKOR – an NGO has come forward to reconstruct a cluster of houses in Vakarai. It is only a few months back the people displaced from Vakaral were resettled.
