The UN has expressed its willingness to assist in the development of the Eastern province.

The visiting secretary of the UN Humanitarian Affairs and Coordinator for emergency assistance Sir John Holmes gave the consent to Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama, at a special meeting yesterday evening.  The Foreign Secretary Dr. Palitha Kohana also participated in the meeting.

The government handed over the plan to obtain foreign assistance to develop the Eastern province yesterday.  A special meeting headed by John Holmes was held last evening.  It is alleged that the Minister of Disaster Management, Mahinda Samarasinghe also was involved in the plan prepared by the Ministry of Nation Building, which included short term, medium term and long term projects, it is alleged.
