Nominations to local bodies in the North to be cancelled

The government has decided to cancel the nominations for the 33 local bodies in the Northern Province. The cancellation will be authentic with the approval of special provinces act of the local government to be presented on the 23rd of this month. Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils Janaka Bandara Tennakone said that nominations of the Jaffna Municipal Council would also be cancelled. The nominations of the local bodies in the East are also cancelled, he said.
The Government intends to hold elections to the Local bodies in the North and East and until such time these local bodies will be administered by the Governor.
