More LTTE youth give up terrorism
A 23 years old LTTE terrorist surrendered to the Ja-Ela Police station yesterday, the Police sources revealed.
This man was working as a personal security guard for a provincial leader of the Sea Tigers in the Mannar area and says to be a native from Lindula of the Thalawakele area – a main tourist attraction of the South Central part of Sri Lanka.
Previously, he has worked in Colombo as a helper at a small fruit boutique and through a friend, he has left to Vavuniya where he met with the LTTE cardres and later joined with them, according to his statements. He has further added that he received a special training on weapons and has been involved in several combats as well.
The Police have found a Grama Sevaka’s (Village level Administration Officer’s) certification document with him bearing a name of a dead person of his area and the LTTE surrendee has admitted that it was given to him by the LTTE authorities to obtain a new National Identity Card.
He has said that on the orders from his leaders, he has been sent to Colombo, as he was aware of its locations. He was told that a female LTTE supporter disguised in a school uniform will pass on the details and was supposed to meet her at a well-known street in the centre of Colombo.
As the youth has revealed, while on his way to meet the woman he was followed by another LTTE person but as he failed to meet the woman and lost the whereabouts of his follower, he has ultimately ended up in Ja-Ela and surrendered himself to the Police Station.
Ja-Ela Police is conducting further investigations on to this matter.
The Media Centre for National Security stated that a 22 years old Tiger terrorist surrendered on 24 October, to the Selvanagar Army camp in Kanthale in the Eastern part of the country. In a statement made, he has confessed that he was forcibly "recruited" and received a seven months training along with many hardships and harassments.
Military Spokesperson Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe said that during the last 2 weeks alone, 28 other forced recruits of LTTE have surrendered to the Sri Lankan Army.
