Our aim is to free the civilians

Very soon we will free the innocent people of the east, said army commander, Sarath Fonseka. We will release them from the clutches of the LTTE and make them live in their lands without any hindrance.

The LTTE used the Kathiravely and Vakarai area people as human shields and attack the army with shells and artilleries.

The victimized people are moving into the army-controlled area. 4028 persons have already arrived in the army-controlled area.  2947 children are among them.  They are sheltered in welfare centers. 3210 persons of Kantalai area were displaced due to the LTTE shell attack.

The forces captured two LTTE forward defence lines. More than 300 terrorists were killed in the clashes in the Eastern province during the last few days.
