UNICEF has revealed that the LTTE had been involved in abductions of thousands of youths since the signing of the Cease Fire Agreement.

The LTTE abducted a total of 5956 youths between the year 2002 and December 2006. 1012 children were under the age of 15. The UNICEF further states that 1591 people have been abducted by the LTTE during this year up to the month of May.  Currently under aged children are forcibly conscripted for arms training in Vanni. Although Prabakaran faction promised, repeatedly to the UNICEF that it would release the under aged children, the LTTE has not honoured its promise.
