– District Judge warns Jaffna Traders

The District Judge of Jaffna R.T. Vignarajah warned the traders of Jaffna, not to create a situation that compels the Government Agent to use emergency laws to prevent hoarding and making excess profits.

The judge issued this warning when five traders who disregarded the GA’s list of controlled prices and sold items above the stipulated prices, were produced before him.

The Jaffna population is undergoing many hardships. The traders should not try to burden them with more problems. The prices fixed for essential items by the GA should be adhered to strictly. Price index should be displayed in every store. Stern action will follow if these instructions are violated. Selling essential food items at exorbitant prices disregarding the GA’s orders could prompt the GA to use emergency regulations, the Judge warned.
