The ICRC has agreed to be in service for 5 days a week at the Vavuniya Omanthai checkpoint on the request made by the LTTE and the GOSL.

The ICRC withdrew their service from the Omanthai checkpoint due to the shooting by the LTTE, which damaged the vehicle and monitoring centre of the ICRC in the last June. But on the request made by the GOSL it agreed to open the checkpoint for three days a week. Now the ICRC has agreed to open the road for 5 days a week from Monday the 27th of August, from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. The ICRC agreed to open the road for 5 days to transport essential goods for the people of Vanni and to enable the patients to come to Vavuniya for treatment.
