Due to military operations, the LTTE has become badly defeated and it lost about 60% of the territory it held earlier, said the Army Commander Lt. General Sarath Fonseka to the Sunday observer in an interview.

The LTTE not only lost 60% of previously held territory, but the series of defeats has caused splits among its cadres, which resulted in large-scale defection. The ‘Eelam dream’ was also diminished, said the Commander.

Instead of two Provinces the North and East, the LTTE now holds two districts namely Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu. Over 3000 terrorists had been killed and over thousand have been maimed.

In addition to the 60% of the land, the LTTE lost 50% of its armaments, due to internal clashes that followed the ignominious defeats it sustained. The Army Commander further said that the LTTE brought in a great quantity of arms at the early part of the Cease Fire Agreement.
