Final phase on the election reforms is under way and the draft for this is being prepared at the moment.

Written suggestions are being received from all political parties representing in the Parliament. Today is the final day to receive the suggestions, said Dinesh Gunawardena, Chairman of the Parliamentary select committee appointed for this issue.

This committee has prepared a draft covering some important subjects, and copies of the draft are being distributed among political parties in the parliament.

Accordingly, a final decision will be taken in this regard during the special sitting of the parliament on 7th November 2006. Actions are to be taken on election reforms based on electoral and proportional representation.

The General elections, Local Government elections and Provincial Council elections will be held in the future on the decision of the parliament, the Minister said.
