UNP levels various allegations againt the government
United Peoples’ Freedom Alliance says that the UNP
levels various allegations against the government
sensing a defeat in the eastern provincial council
election.
Secretary to the Alliance Minister Susil Premajayanth
says the Postal Department has successfully delivered
the official poll cards of the election.
The cards that couldn’t be distributed will be kept
safely at the relevant post offices. However, the UNP
is attempting to mislead the public by complaining
that the government has given the undelivered poll
cards to some contestants of the election.
The UNP is also attempting to discredit the government
by holding media briefings and producing fake voice
cuts to the media. The Minister totally rejects the
UNP allegations and stressed that holding the election
free and fair is ensured by the government.
Meanhile an election office of the United People’s
Freedom Alliance in Thambalagamuwa has been attacked
by thugs.
A UNP Puttalam District parliamentarian and a group of
thugs have threatened the chairman of the
Thambalagamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha at the UPFA office and
damaged the office.
The MP had then behaved in an unruly manner at the
Thambalagamuwa police station when a complaint was
being made regarding the incident.
It is reported that UPFA Thambalagamuwa activists
have informed relevant units including the elections
commissioner regarding the incident.
Meanhwile Minister Maithreepala Sirisena says the
government aims to maintain the existing peaceful
scenario in the Eastern Province. He pointed out that
the strengthening of democracy in the province will
further contribute in this regard.
Accordingly, the government took steps to hold
provincial council elections in the East. Minister
Sirisena added that with the functioning of a
provincial council development projects under the
Nagenahira Navodaya programme will be further boosted.
