Government is considering opening of an alternative road for A-9, which was closed when fighting erupted around Muhamalai.

Government has taken cognisance of opening the alternative road to reach Paranthan from Pooneryn. The Media Centre for National Security said the LTTE is against the opening of the proposed new road. There are frequent clashes at Muhamalai, Palai and Sorampattu areas along the A –9 Highway.
