Kalutara Balika clinch schools netball crown

Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya clinched the overall title at the all island schools netball championships at Bogambara Stadium in Kandy, yesterday.

Kaluatar BV won the under 18 age group and emrged runners un in all other three age group categories to claim the overall title with a total of 23 points.
Musaeus Collage Colombo won the under 12 title, Holy Family Conevent, Kurunegala won the under 14 title while Girls’ High School, Kandy claimed theunder 16 title. Kalutara BV entered all these three finals but lost.

Kalutara finally won a title in the under 18 final defeating Sacred Heart Convent, Galle and their superior performance in all age groups made them assured of the title.
Junior team also was shown improvement in the under 12 age category after won championship when they defeated Kalutara BV by 17 points to 10 in the finals.

The highlighted game of the day was under 18 final between defending champions Kalutara BV and Sacred Heart Covent, Galle. The both teams showed good quality netball and high class playing skills. After a breath taking battle, Kaluatara BV just prevailed over the fancied Sacred Heart Covent, Galle by a mere two points at 25-23.

A coach of a winning team said that they sensed something wrong in the selection of the best players as Kalutara BV players were adjudged best players even in the finals they had lost. She said that an official complaint on the matter would be made to th Schools Netball Assocaition.
However she said they will be send official complain to the Schools Netball Association in the in future.

Chief guest of the final day was Tikiri Kobbakaduwa, governor of central Province. The tournament was conducted by schools netball association and was sponsored by Nestle Lanka.
