The National radio marks its 84th anniversary today.

Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation marks its 84th anniversary today. The national radio was officially launched on December 16th in 1925 by then governor Hugh Clifford. Sri Lanka is the first country among the British Colonies in Asia that launched a radio . SLBC has become the largest broadcasting institution in the island at present.

 

 It has  three  Sinhala channels   , two tamil channels and an English channel  . SLBC has the first children radio  channel as well.  SLBC Archives  is the  largest electronic library in Asian region. SLBC also   broadcasts its services via internet and  satellite technology.

Issuing a felicitation message for the 84th anniversary Senior Professor of  Chandrasiri Rajapakse says national Radio renders a yeoman service to the nation  as an example to the  other electronic media. 

Prof.Sunanda Mahendra says SLBC broadcasts quality programmes  to cater to the needs of all categories of the society.
