JAFFNA: The Army foiled major LTTE terror plan and assassination attempts by
recovering a large stock of explosives including suicide jackets from JAFFNA
this morning (17).  Acting on a lead from a resident, the Army uncovered a large
stock of C-4 explosives, suicide jackets and ammunition from a house in the
KANTHARODAI area around 10.00 a.m. this morning.

The stock had been carefully concealed in a hidden compartment between two walls
of the house, Army sources said. The discovery is one of the biggest findings in
JAFFNA during recent times. The Army believes that the items would have been
stored by the LTTE terrorists to mount a major attack to disrupt normalcy in
Jaffna.

The cooperation extended by civilians have hampered LTTE attempts to engage in
disruptive attacks and helped troops to maintain normalcy in the JAFFNA
peninsula. Assistance by JAFFNA civilians in combating terrorism is a clear
indication of the growing public support towards the humanitarian mission of the
Security Forces.
