Chamber of Construction Industry Sri Lanka (CCI) the accredited representative of the domestic construction industry will host “ Excon – Trincomalee” as Sri Lanka’s first regional construction trade fair during the period 27th to 28th Feb 2010 at Koneshwera Hindu College Premises. “Excon Trincomalee” will be inaugurated on 27th Feb. 2010 by Hon. Susantha Punchinilame, Minister of Nation Building. CCI on the heels of the success achieved by “Excon 2009” as Sri Lanka’s first international construction trade fair will now host a series of regional exhibitions.
“Excon – Trincomalee” is designed to enhance the capacities and competitiveness of the construction industry in the Eastern Province. In view of the unprecedented development activities that are taking place in the Eastern Province under “Nagenahira Navodaya” and also large scale investment in the tourist industry in terms of building new hotels, additions to current room portfolio and tourist infrastructure, an imminent need has arisen to build capacities of the construction industry, the driver of development.
The event will facilitate linkage building between stakeholders of the construction industry in the Eastern Province and the larger players from other parts of the Island providing collaboration opportunities to execute larger contracts in infrastructure development and other construction projects. “Excon Trincomalee” will provide a forum for transfer of technology and identification of opportunities and challenges in the construction industry in the Eastern Province which is a necessity.
“Excon Trincomalee” is also expected to promote the image of the construction industry in the eastern region which will facilitate attraction of school leavers and youth to the industry. CCI which will shortly establish four construction craftsmen centres in the Batticaloa district will also use this event to promote training in construction crafts and conflict transformation through livelihood development.
CCI invites vendors and manufacturers of construction inputs such as plant, equipment and material to support this initiative by their prominent participation. Already large number of statutory authorities and financial institutions have confirmed their participation. This is a unique opportunity afforded to all major industry stakeholders to strengthen their presence in an emerging market.
