JVP blames Govt for EU suspending GSP+
The JVP said on Monday that the government should take responsibility for the European Union's decision to suspend the GSP+ trade preferences.
Former MP Sunil Handuneththi said that the decision had been taken in the wake of various rights violations and that the government had failed to convince the international community that the facility should be given to Sri Lanka.
The suspension comes into effect six months from now and preferences could still be reinstated if, at the European Commission's suggestion, a qualified majority of member states decides to do so.
