The Colombo high court has granted leave to proceed with a petition filed against a group including former UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake under the Exchange Control Act.

They have been accused of assisting a non-Sri Lankan to deposit three million dollars in a private bank without permission from the Central Bank.

High court judge Deepani Wijesundara today (Feb. 23) considered the petition and rejected objections filed by the respondents.

After the charges were read out in the court in the presence of the respondents, they pleaded not guilty.

The judge ordered that the case be taken up daily.

First witness in the case, deputy exchange controller of the Central Bank Sisira Kumara Perera gave evidence today.
