UNP urges security for opposition supporters returning to work today
The UNP has called for full security for public servants and corporation sector employees returning to work after the election period amidst allegations that opposition supporters were already being threatened not to report to work today.
UNP Generaal Secretary in a letter to President Rajapaksa said that already some of the employees have received threatening telephone calls telling them not to report to work.
He said that it was a democratic right to support any candidate and therefore it was not correct to harass any of the employees who held different views.
He called on the president to ensure their safety as well as protect their property.
Mr. Attanayaka named some of the institutions such as the Ports Authority, Rupavahini Corporation, Transport Board and the CPC where employees may be threatened.
