New rehabilitation chief Sudantha Ranasinghe says community villages will be introduced for reintegrating and rehabilitating former LTTE combatants.

Under this method, they will be rehabilitated while they live with their own families, he has told the media.

According to him, plans have already been drawn up for the new concept.

Mr. Ranasinghe has said its implementation would begin as soon as certain administrative matters are sorted out.

Under the first phase of the effort, he said, 200 houses will accommodate the ex-Tiger cadres.

Nearly 11,400 former LTTE members, either surrendered or arrested during the final stage of the war around nine months ago, are presently under rehabilitation at 18 centres.
