Commissioner Dissanayake gives up
Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake has given up giving instructions to the relevant authorities to maintain the polls laws and regulations adding that if his orders were not adhered to then there was very little he can do to rectify the situation.
Dissanayake made this observation during a meeting with party secretaries at the Elections Commissioner’s Office this afternoon, Anura Kumara Dissanayake from the Janatha Vimukthi Perumana (JVP) said.
The Commissioner had further stated that the Police Chief Mahinda Balasooriya had said he did not have sufficient cadre when he was told to arrest all buses displaying election propaganda material.
Commissioner also plans to tell the heads of state-run media to be fair in their election-related coverage, but if they too fail to comply then there is very little his office can do, Mr Dissanayake said.
