1,565 LTTE detainees request permission to vote

Assistant Elections Commissioner S. Sudakaran said that 1,565 LTTE suspects currently residing rehabilitation centers have requested the Elections Commissioner permission to vote at the general election.

The Elections Commissioner during the last Presidential election granted permission for detainees at the Vavuniya detention camp to vote and he is expected to follow the same procedure for the general elections as well. Sudakaran said the Commissioner had issues special identification cards to the detainees in accordance to the 2008 electoral lists.
