VAT fraudster’s friend flees the country

The VAT fraudster, Kamil Kuthubdeen’s friend who had arrived in the country to invest money in NFF Leader Wimal Weerawansa’s election campaign had fled the country last afternoon, sources from the police headquarters said.



Former Deputy Tourism Minister Faizer Mustapha had asked Kuthubdeen’s business friend and his wife who were residing at the Ramada Hotel (Holiday Inn) to immediately leave the county.

When a special police team had arrived at the hotel to question him on the donation of Rs. 50 million to Wimal’s campaign, it was learnt that he had left for Singapore.
Several government ministers have complained to the    President about the manner in which Wimal had received funds for his election campaign and the President had asked the IGP to keep a close watch on the fraudulent businessmen who have given money to Wimal’s campaign.
