General is a hero of the calibre of ‘Weera Keppetipola’ – Ven. Dhambara Amila Thero
Gen. Sarath Fonseka is a hero of the calibre of ‘Weera Keppetipola’; just as the executioner refused to assassinate ‘Weera Keppitipola’, when imperialists ordered the assassinator to assassinate instantly all forces against the General are falling back said Ven. Dhambara Amila, President of Patriotic National Centre (PNC) speaking to the media at the Courts Complex at Hultsdorf today.
Speaking further Ven. Amila Thero said, “We know that the Army officers who went to arrest Gen. Fonseka hesitated to do so. There were reports that certain officers refused to take part in the arrest. Also, the members appointed for the military tribunal indicating they were not prepared refused to hear the case.
Even today at the inquiry to the habeas corpus petition the judges stating their personal issues withdrew from hearing the case. As a result the case was postponed.
I am reminded of our history when imperialists ordered the executioner to severe ‘Weera Keppetipola’s head from the body the executioner went against the order. It was another executioner that was employed to sever Keppetipola’s head from his body. From today’ incident we can see that judges are reluctant to give a judgment against Gen. Sarath Fonseka.
We don’t know what is behind the personal reasons for the judges to keep away from the case. However, we feel that Gen. Fonseka is an extraordinary man. This is why judges of several courts avoided making a judgment on him. This is why Army men who went to arrest him shivered and backed off without arresting him. It is his phenomenal character that won the war for this country. His unique nature and love towards Motherland could be seen from the way he directed our forces in the war. His astonishing valour is displayed by giving leadership to the nation even when he is imprisoned. All this indicates his uniqueness.
Hence, we remind the masses that a court that is far greater than the courts that are set up to try him would be available soon. It is the people’s court. We call upon all masses to make the correct evaluation of his greatness at this court. We consider this decision of the masses to be the most important one in the history of our Motherland.
