Computer labs for 1750 schools
Minister of Education Susil Premajayanth participating at a computer lab launching ceremony for students of Sapugaskanda Visaka Balika Vidyalaya in the Biyagama education division said that the government under its secondary education reorientation programme has taken measures to provide computer labs to 1750 schools and coordinate 1250 of them under a single centralised computer network.
The Minister said that this was one of the scheduled programmes organised for the Teachers Commemoration Day on October 5.
The Minister after donating the Rs. 50 lakhs worth computer lab said that he has observed the school`s progress underits present principal. He said he had visited the school several times within the past 15 years in his capacity as the Western Province Education Minister and as Minister of Education and given instructions to the building constructions Director of the Ministry, to complete the two storied computer lab building early.
Western Provincial Council member N. L. Gunasiri Jayantha said that the school children should be prepared to make the best use of the measures taken by the government to provide technical knowledge in education.
The school principal Mr. Liyanage said that 18 students have been selected to University within the past three years of commencing the G.C.E. A/L classes, in the school.
Western Province Director of Education J. A. D. M. Hemachandra and several others spoke at the ceremony.
