‘Times of India’ news paper reported that there are possibilities of India helping Sri Lanka by way of arms. This subject was discussed when Sri Lankan president was there during his recent visit. Sri Lanka expressed that India provides only diplomatic assistance.

However, Sri Lanka is engaged in attempts to obtain certain varieties of light weapons and radar equipments. A tender notice is published to purchase guns worth 4000 dollars from India. In addition tanks, spy aircrafts, laser guided and G.P.M. missiles are expected from India.

India’s change of mind is to prevent China and Pakistan from stepping in to the arms trade with Sri Lanka.

However, Indian media had reported that the Sri Lankan President in fact asked for moral assistance and declined to ask about arms during his visit.
