Bhikku Convocation Stopped Due To Pressure From Group Of Bhikkus Partial To Govt.

The 'Maha Sangha Sammelanaya' scheduled to be held in Kandy today (18th) convened by the Mahanayakas of the three Chapters and with the participation of all Bhikkus throughout the island had to be postponed due to the mediation and pressurizing of a group of Bhikkus partial to the government states advisor to the National Bhikku Front Ven. Aththangane Rathanapala Thero.

 

The Thero said this at a media meeting held by the Bhikkus of the three Chapters to inform the reasons for the postponement of the Bhikku Convocation.

 

Speaking further Ven. Aththangane Rathanapala Thero said a group of Bhikkus partial to the government had visited the Mahanayakas and spent several hours pressurizing them to abandon the Bhikku Convocation. He pointed out the threats made to the Mahanayakas could be understood from the announcement they made announcing the postponement of the summit.

 

 Ven. Aththangane Rathanapala Thero said he is making the statement with responsibility on information given to him by the Mahanayakas.
