When Panadura Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake asked Panadura North Police to point out what crime has been committed by drawing election symbols on the road, the police were dumbfounded and they said they would refer to Election Act and inform the Court. The Panadura Police had to make this response to the Judge when two member of the JVP were produced before court alleging they had drawn 'Trophy' symbol on the Galle Road.

Speaking further the Magistrate said the two suspects had not committed any crime according to the Election Act. He told the police that if the police wanted to act according to the Election Act they would have to remove banners, cutouts and other propaganda material of politicians when the nominations have been handed over.

Sergeant Alwis, SI of Crimes Department of Panadura North Police Pushpakumara and several police officers represented the Panadura North Police.
