Police chase after Matara Mayor for supporting General Fonseka
A special team from the CID had recorded a statement from Matara Mayor Upul Nishantha on the behavior of General Sarath Fonseka when he visited Matara during the Presidential election campaign, the people who accompanied the General and the support extended by the Matara Municipal Council.
One ASP Premaratne, who was among the team that recorded the statement, had continuously questioned the Mayor of his relationship with the General.
The team had also recorded a statement from the security guard at the Sanath Jayasuriya Stadium. The security guard had been asked if senior police officers from the Matara Police arrived at the venue to provide security for the General when he arrived in Matara twice during his campaign and if those officers shook hands with General Fonseka.
The Matara Mayor’s residence was attacked several times recently for supporting General Fonseka.
