A campaign to distribute leaflets was held opposite the Fort Railway Station yesterday (15th) organized by ‘Journalists against Suppression.’ Yesterday was the 50th day since ‘Lanka e News’ journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda has been disappeared.

The campaign to distribute leaflets was to oppose the government for not taking any action regarding the disappearance of journalist Eknaligoda and apprise the people of the repression carried out by the government on journalists and media institutions that reveal the truth to the people.

Mr. Prageeth Eknaligoda’s wife Sandhya Eknaligoda, Chief Editor of ‘Lanka Irida’ Chandana Sirimalwatta and a large number of journalists participated in the campaign.

Speaking at the occasion Sandhya Eknaligoda said, “My husband has been disappeared for fifty days now. The government has been following a silent policy on this incident. They say police investigations are being carried out. First the investigations were done by Mirihana Police. Now investigations have been taken over by Colombo. However, I still have not met the gentleman who is said to be involved in the investigations.

The government first said police investigations were going on. Next they said details would be given in two weeks. The Minister of Media said he would give information regarding the incident on the 10th. Now the Minister of Media too is silent.

There isn’t any information regarding him still. The people connected to the government don’t do anything except insult me. I and my two children find life difficult. My children are still schooling. My eldest son is preparing to sit the GCE O/L exam this year. The children are shocked at their father’s disappearance.  They are reluctant to go to school now. The eldest son says he doesn’t feel like studying. This is the situation in our home.

I call upon the authorities in this country, special the President, to carry out investigations and let us know the truth.
