Wimal’s monk friend involved in a racket to admit children into schools
A monk appointed to the board of directors of the Urban Township Development Authority by NFF Leader and Minister Wimal Weerawansa, as it is a subject under his purview, is reportedly involved in taking bribes from people promising to help admit their children to popular schools in Colombo.
It is learnt that Ven. Ittekande Saddhatissa Thero has taken money from parents saying he was a close associate of Minister Wimal Weerawansa and was therefore able to get the President to help enter their children into popular schools.
Sources said that the monk, who is currently disgruntled over the fact that he is not given an appropriate allowance as a member of a board of directors, has taken between Rs. 3 lakhs and Rs. 4 lakhs from parents promising to enter their children into popular schools like Roya, Ananda, Visakha, Museaus, Nalanda and Devi Balika.
Employees at the Authoirty have now questioned as to why Minister Weerawansa, who has firmly said that he would not hesitate to sack any state employee if found guilty of being involved in irregular dealings, was turning a blind eye to the corrupt activities of a person appointed by him.
