President pays respects to soldiers killed in Muhamalai
President Rajapakse attended the funerals of 02 soldiers, who were killed in the Muhamalai battle in Jaffna. He undertook a sudden visit to their villages.
The President visited the Nawagattegama village in the Anamaduwa electorate and the Sangappaliya village in the Galgamuwa electorate. The villagers were surprised to see the President’s presence. They expressed their gratitude to him in respect of the battle undertaken by the war heroes against terrorism, even though they were feeling the loss of their loved ones.
A majority of them said that the he should not undertake such insecure visits and it was not opportune for him to attend such funerals. His protection is vital to safeguard the country.
Mr. Rajapakse visited the house of soldier H M Nandasiri of Sangappaliya and paid his last respects. He was told that it was the third member of their family who died. The President assured to build their house.
The villagers gathered, where the helicopter landed. They briefed Mr.Rajapakse about their problems. MP Dalas Alahapperuma, who was accompanying the President was instructed to take initial measures next week to provide electricity to the village.
Minister D M Dassanayake, participated in the funeral of Sergeant Jayasundara of Nawagattegama, while Minister Bandula Basnayake and S B Navinna attended the funeral of soldier Nandasiri.
