Another cowardly attempt of the LTTE terrorists to commit a mass murder of civilians was averted this morning, at Mahara (Thursday the 19th of October) by a vigilant civilian.

A three-wheeler driver who detected a suspicious parcel left behind at the Pushparama junction around 9.a.m, informed the matter immediately to the Police station Kadawatha.

The police personnel rushed to the location and took all necessary action to vacate the civilians from the area. The Colombo- Kandy main road was closed and the Army bomb disposal unit was alerted.

Later, a claymore mine weighing 8kg, covered in a plastic bag was discovered by the bomb disposal experts of the SL Army. The bomb was defused around 10.a.m and the Colombo- Kandy road was re-opened for the normal traffic.

It is reliably understood that the LTTE terrorists have planted this bomb targeting the civilians using the main road in the crowded weekday morning.
