The dissident group of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) says the official vehicles of four of their members have been stolen by another JVP MP from the Parliament garage.

Kalutara district JVP parliamentarian Piyasiri Wijenayake charged that his Toyota Double Cab was forcibly removed by a group led by Trincomalee district MP Jayantha Wijesekara yesterday (April 08th).

The group, after assaulting the policeman on duty, has also taken Ratnapura district MP Achala Suranga Jagoda's Toyota van, he added.

The policeman, injured in the attack, has been admitted to hospital.

The vehicles were parked at the MPs' garage in Parliament, Mr. Wijenayake said, as the dissident group left for a press conference after a special speech by JVP Parliamentary Group leader Wimal Weerawansa.

The vehicle of the party's Monaragala district MP Padma Udaya Shantha, that another dissident group member, Mr. Samansiri Herath, had used yesterday for his journey home, had been hijacked by the group after assaulting his driver.

Matale district MP Sujatha Alahakoon's vehicle too, has gone missing with the driver from the Parliament garage on the evening of April 08th, Mr. Wijenayake added.

The MP has lodged complaints with the Speaker, Parliament's acting Secretary General and the Welikada Police.

Meanwhile, Speaker W.J.M. Lokubandara told BBC Sandeshaya that he ordered the police to launch an investigation after Mr. Wijenayake's complaint.

However, he did not accuse Mr. Wijesekara of any involvement in the incident, the Speaker added.
