Several Cabinet Ministers are to request President Mahinda Rajapaksa to dismiss Secretary of the Finance Ministry and the Treasury, P.B. Jayasundara, the ‘Lakbima’ newspaper reports. The Chief Justice, Sarath N. Silva recently ordered Dr. P.B. Jayasundara to pay Rs. 500,000, as compensation after finding him guilty of corruption during a sale of an 8.5-acre land of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority and a transfer of 90 per cent stake of Lanka Marine Services Ltd to John Keells Holdings (JKH).The Ministers are of the opinion that retaining such a corrupt official in his post could cause dejection in the public sector, the ‘Lakbima says’.It is not appropriate to retain such an official who has been disliked since the UNP regime, it adds, citing the ministers.Speaking recently, senior Vice President of the SLFP, Nimal Siripala De Silva said that the government would come to a decision regarding Dr. P.B. Jayasundara, after considering the recent Supreme Court ruling against him.
