Meanwhile the President’s media division has issued an announcement stating ‘Lanka’ Editor Chandana Sirimalwatta had to be released due to the mediation of the President.

According to this announcement the President had ordered the IGP today (16th) morning to take necessary measures to release Mr. Sirimalwatta. It is also mentioned that the President made the order on a request made by the Editor of ‘Ravaya’ Victor Ivan.

However, according to information ‘Lankatruth’ has received questioning by the CID from Mr. Sirimalwatta, who was being detained, was completed on the 5th and the CID had inquired from the Attorney General whether his detention could be continued further. When the Attorney General informed that there were no charges against Mr. Sirimalwatta to keep him under detention further the CID had to take him before the Court.

Accordingly, Mr. Sirimalwatta was produced before Gangodawila Magistrate and as there were no charges against him the Magistrate released without any conditions.
