NEM IHR Urges EC To Cancel Transfer Of Police Officer Carried Out By Minister & His Chief Minister Father

The Network for Election Monitoring of the Intellectuals for Human Rights (NEM IHR) has requested the Commissioner of Elections to immediately stop the transfer of a police officer carried out on the mediation of Minister Duminda Dissanayake after the minister and a gang of his supporters assaulted the said police officer at Galkulama area in Anuradhapura.

NEM in its letter states Police Inspector Sumith Munasinghe attached to Anuradhaprya Police Headquarters was assaulted by Minister Duminda Dissanayake and his supporters at Galkulama area in Anuradhapura on 16.03.2010 after an argument on political matters . NEM has been informed that Mr. Munasinghe who was injured in the attack has been admitted to ward 20 at Anuradhapura Hospital.  

Later, with the mediation of Minister Duminda Dissanayake and her Chief Minister of North Central Province Berty Premalal Dissanayake, Mr. Munasinghe was transferred points out NEM in its letter to Commissioner of Elections and adds that transferring police officers who impartially carry out election regulations on the mediation by politicians is a violation of election law.

NEM has requested the Commissioner of Elections to instruct the IGP to cancel the transfer immediately.
