By deleting records of Lasantha’s mobile phone discussions Dialog violates court orders
Sources from the CID said that Dialog Telecom has violated an order issued by the Gangodawila Courts not to delete records of mobile phone conversations of The Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickrematunge has had on the day of the assassination and a few days earlier.
The court had ordered the telecommunications company to ensure that recordings of Lasantha’s telephone conversations are not deleted, as the recordings of conversations of all mobile users are usually subjected to an automatic deletion process after a three month period.
However, the special CID team probing the assassination had been informed by the telecommunications company the recordings of Lasantha’s mobile phone conversations have been deleted.
A senior official at Dialog told us that the records were deleted following an order from a senior Defence Ministry official. Dialog CEO, Hans Wijesuriya is the son-in-law of Presidential Advisor, Sunimal Fernando.
